Rules are posted for a reason. This, we all know and hopefully understand. So, here's a list of the forum's basic rules. I do not like adding to them, but I will enforce them without hesitation if I see something I don't like.
Rule One: Even if you're new to this kind of thing, you should know that taking control of someone's character without permission is akin to stealing. Not only is it morally wrong, but it can destroy a perfectly good character in the process. So, plain and simple, don't do it.
Rule Two: As far as violence, sexuality, profanity, and the like are concerned, I don't mind it. However, there are others out there that do. So, unless you are posting in the over eighteen boards, keep it under PG-13. Respect this rule, and respect it well.
Rule Three: Grammar, grammar, grammar! GRAMMAR! I cannot tell you how important this is! I have been involved in some good RPs in the past that went bad due to someone incessantly using Chat Speak and the horrible grammar that ensues. As a Composition major, it literally drives me crazy. So, avoid giving me a mental melt-down and use the English language the way it was meant to be used. Slip-ups here and there are going to happen, we're all human, and even I slip here and there, but put forth the effort to present a nicely written paragraph. Not only will it look good, but it will show your respect to the RP and the people are RPing with.
Rule Four: As far as length of reply is concerned, try to make it a decent reply. One-liners leave little for the other person to build on, and frustrate more than help. Even if your character is a close-mouthed quadriplegic, they must have something to contribute or else they wouldn't be around.
Rule Five: This is more of a regulation, really. Lets say you are RPing a character from the Bleach realm, and he/she meets someone from the Pokemon realm. First of all, your Bleach character probably wouldn't have the faintest idea what a Pikachu is, and the same goes for a Pokemon Trainer with a zanpakutou. The only thing either party know is that both are forms of tools to be used in battle, and little else. So, even if you [the creator] know the names of every 493 Pokemon, your Soul Reaper or whoever won't. Take an objective view, and guide your characters like they need to be taught about everything they don't know. Make them ask questions, put them in odd situations, force them if you have to! That's part of the fun! RPing is a tool to hone a character's over-all personality. Wouldn't you like to know more about them?
Rule Six: This is another one of those common sense rules, and it should be addressed even if it's one everyone should be familiar with. God-Modding. Making a character all-powerful and unable to die. I know, it's tempting to do. No one wants their character to die, after all. Just don't do it. I don't want to have to play the gods-vs-gods game and shut you down 'cause you decided to be a power-happy freak. This also goes for instant deaths, instant kills, 'ha, I send my sword through your heart and now you're dead'. I play D&D. No death is instant unless the other part deems it so.
Rule Seven: Always feel free to state your opinion. If you don't like the direction someone is taking an RP, say so. It is well within your right. You can correct the situation quicker than if you don't say anything. Also, don't be afraid to send me a message. I don't bite, and I might be able to help. That goes for anything at all related to the forum, and the people in it.
Those are the basic rules in a nutshell. If you think I should address other matters, you may reach me via PM through my profile page. I'm a fairly busy person in my on-time, however, so if you don't get a reply right away, don't sweat. I'm getting to it. =)
Farewell for now,
